Beat the Flu Naturally: Top 9 Natural Remedies

The best time to treat the flu is when you first notice flu-like symptoms such as chills, fever, headaches, sore throat, fatigue and body aches. Below are some of the best natural therapies to help you recover fast.

Zinc

Zinc is a needed to support the immune system. It also has antiviral properties making it great for flu season. Be careful not to get too much zinc, which can prevent absorption of other necessary minerals.

Probiotics

The immune system can be balanced by the good bacteria in your gut. By promoting adequate amounts of this good bacteria, you can support optimal immune function. Probiotics are especially important to support immunity in young children.

Vitamin C

Vitamin C is best taken as a preventative, and has been shown to help shorten the duration of colds and flus. High dose Vitamin C can be used when symptoms are present to increase white blood cells to fight off illness. High dose Vitamin C therapy can be achieved through intravenous infusions.

Vitamin D

Vitamin D is well known for it's immune regulating properties. While sunlight may be able to stimulate Vitamin D production, in times of sickness, you may need a stronger dose of this immune support vitamin. It is best to check your levels to determine optimal Vitamin D status.

Water

Proper hydration is always important, but is especially important in times of illness. Lots of water is lost with the flu and adequate hydration is needed to supporting detoxification and to prevent the respiratory tract from drying out. It's a good idea to add electrolytes to drinking water to help ensure fluid utilization.

Sleep

When dealing with the flu, you will need more rest than usual. Be sure to give yourself enough time to rest and recover during flu season.

Limit Sugar

The bugs that cause illness feed off the sugars you consume, allowing them to multiply and grow. Try using honey to sweeten - it will also give you an immunity boost!

Nutritional IVs

For the speediest recovery, I recommend trying a customized nutritional IV. These infusions contains vitamin, minerals, and herbal constituents to help to fight off infections, stimulate the immune system and replenish fluids.

Natural "Flu Shots"

Natural "Flu shots" are liquid herbal formulas custom made for patients based on their symptoms may include some of these powerful immune-boosting herbs:

Echinacea

Echinacea is an anti-microbial herb with anti-inflammatory properties. Studies have shown that this herb can effectively treat respiratory illness such as sore throat and cough when taken as symptoms first start.

Elderberry

Elderberry is one of the most popular herbs for immune support. Not only can it help fight off illness, but it also contains lots of powerful antioxidants. I prefer tinctures of this immune-boosting herb for the most potent and effective dose.

Osha

Osha is a native North American herb that is used to combat illness, primarily respiratory infections including the flu. Osha is best taken at the first signs of sickness.
